Oct 3 | Pedal for the Anacostia: 15-Mile Ride Supports a Healthier River

Cyclists are invited to hit the trail for a good cause during an upcoming 15-mile ride along the Anacostia River supporting efforts to create a healthier, swimmable and fishable river.

Hosted in support of Anacostia Riverkeeper, the ride will bring participants together at Atlas Brew Works at the Bridge District while raising awareness and funds for the ongoing work to protect and restore one of the region’s most important waterways.

Anacostia Riverkeeper works throughout the watershed on issues ranging from water quality and trash reduction to stormwater management, advocacy and public access. The organization also creates opportunities for residents to connect directly with the river through volunteer water-quality monitoring, cleanups, educational programs and free boat tours.

That community connection is an important part of the organization’s mission.

For generations, communities surrounding the Anacostia River have dealt with the effects of industrial pollution, environmental racism and disinvestment. Today, Anacostia Riverkeeper and other local organizations are working alongside residents to restore the river while making sure the people who live near it have opportunities to experience and enjoy it.

The 15-mile bike ride offers another way for residents and supporters to get involved — this time on two wheels.

Funds raised through the event will support Anacostia Riverkeeper’s work toward a future in which the Anacostia is healthy, accessible, swimmable and fishable for everyone.

The event will take place at Atlas Brew Works at the Bridge District.
