Anacostia Jazz Hop
An annual event activating Anacostia's main streets with pop-up cafes, live jazz, and visual art. Live music and visual artists are placed in retail and open spaces for a one-day festival.
Flower Power
Every spring, the ABID engages visual artists, musicians, poets, flower growers, and designers to activate the business corridors with live performances, visual art displays, and floral designs.
Plugged in Sound Sessions
An up close and in-person experience with artists of multiple genres that perform for small groups, along with a discussion of their inspirations with the audience.
Entrepreneur Socials
Artists, arts workers, and those that hire and support the arts and the gig economy to discuss and network. An in-person and virtual creative space for driven arts entrepreneurs to meet and grow.
TasteLabDC
A culinary experience bringing together a cadre of up-and-coming chefs and food entrepreneurs. In addition, a culinary networking event for consumers to enjoy prepared food offerings and learn about the chefs and chefs sharing their experiences.
The Progressive Taste
An evening of curated catering specialties and music at select Anacostia outdoor venues. Guests will be in groups and progress to each location.
ArtFestival 8
A multifaceted, multi-genre arts outdoor festival that showcases artwork from all over the world virtually and in person.
DRAW! WRITE! SING! DANCE!
Timed artsy Round Robin. A tournament in which each competitor meets every participant while at the same time creating art for the win.
Environmental Film, Health and Wellness Fest
Environmental partners produce a festival focusing on the environment, resiliency, and sustainability. This festival will incorporate our indoor spaces, theaters, outdoor spaces, and parks.
Keep the Corridor Clean
Five artworks with the theme of neighborhood cleanliness printed on metal plates and attached to trash cans around the Arts District.
New Mural Program
Property owners provide locations for new murals and provide grants to artists to paint new murals.
Mural Restoration Program
Work with professional artists, service providers, and men and women living in shelters with paid work to restore murals and paint new murals in the Arts District.
Human Being Well-being Program
Pilot initiatives that promote and attract public engagement and community well-being that also enhances the Arts District public realm. Pilots will include:
1. Low-volume exterior instrumental music
2. Participatory art kiosks, art walls, and chalk gardens for visitors and community alike
3. Mobile Music Studio for visitors and community alike
4. Cultural Immersion Days – large QR codes placed within the Arts District on specific days that, when scanned provide music, artwork, and history of a particular culture
5. Move! Pop Up dance (dance of multiple genres), yoga, and exercise instruction. We promote and execute these initiatives, track usage, and provide reporting and video documentation to make acceptance of the initiative based on community and visitor participation and data gathered.
6. ART Parks - activating outdoor spaces with live music, community, and visitor opportunities to join in on visual art instruction, watch movies and theatrical productions.
Art to GoGo Small Business Initiative
A self-guided walking route with QR codes placed on public art throughout the Arts District. QR codes will inform visitors about the art, artist, and nearby small businesses.
Spoken Word to GoGo
Opportunities for poets to create spoken word poetry accompanied by GoGo music and perform their pieces for an audience.
Stories Program
artists, arts organizations, embassy arts program directors, and art district businesses and community members to develop an exterior art plan for three projects that build social capital and represent diversity and positive change. ABID, in partnership with the group, will execute the projects selected and create ongoing video documentation of the behind-the-scenes process. ABID will also develop ongoing video interviews with visitors, businesses, artists, and residents that speak to their experience within the arts district.
Artist: Big Chair Discussions
Conversations with artists and makers about their art and the business of making it. Discussions will be filmed and made available on the website of the Arts District.
Artists Workspace and Housing Program
A digital portal connecting artists to housing, workspaces, income, and exhibition opportunities and facilitating technical assistance to establish and grow their businesses in the Arts District. ABID will engage and host biannual mixers with property owners and artists. In addition, ABID will execute efforts to attract businesses and educational institutions that support and grow the artist community and the Arts District.
