2025 anacostia SMALL business Preservation program


To support small businesses in Historic Anacostia, the 11th Street Bridge Park (a project of the Ward 8 non-profit Building Bridges Across the River) is partnering with the Anacostia Business Improvement District and Booz Allen Hamilton to focus on small businesses on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue between Morris Road SE and Howard Road SE. The Anacostia Small Business Preservation Program is a 12-month project where Booz Allen specialists provide pro bono retainer services tailored to each business's needs, including marketing and preparing materials so the companies can successfully apply for government grants and financial analysis.

Selected businesses will receive the following.

  • If selected for this program, you will be working with a dedicated team of Booz Allen volunteers for 12 months. Below is a list of areas of potential support the team can support you on. These categories are just a starting point.  Please select the areas in which you would like assistance:

    MARKETING: Assistance with developing marketing strategies, creating promotional materials, and enhancing your brand presence. Examples: Crafting social media campaigns, designing brochures, and conducting market research.

    FINANCIAL ANALYSIS: Support with financial planning, budgeting, and analyzing financial statements to ensure your organization’s financial health. Examples: Creating financial forecasts,

    GRANT SUPPORT: Guidance on identifying grant opportunities, writing compelling grant proposals, and managing grant applications. Examples: Researching potential funders, drafting grant narratives, and reviewing applications for grant submissions.

    STRATEGIC PLANNING: Help with setting long-term goals, developing action plans, and aligning your business’s resources to achieve your mission. Examples: Facilitating strategic planning workshops, creating SWOT analyses, and developing implementation roadmaps.

    TECHNOLOGY CONSULTING: Support on leveraging technology to improve operations, implementing new software solutions, and enhancing cybersecurity measures. Examples: Recommending project management tools, Research and analysis, and conducting cybersecurity assessments.

    OTHER: Please specify any other areas where you need assistance.

  • A minimum of $5,000 in grant funds.

Work with a Booz Allen specialist for free! Submit your application by February 3rd!

Selected businesses are required to:

  • Meet monthly with the assigned Booz Allen volunteers (meeting frequency to be coordinated between the business and the Booz Allen volunteers).

  • Attend an Informational Session, Kick-Off event, Closing Celebration event, and another informal gathering throughout the 12-month project.

  • Participate in testimonial videos and evaluation and reporting tasks.

Program Timeline

  • January 6th - February 3rd, 2025: Application OPEN

  • FEBRUARY 7th, 2025: Selected BUsinesses Announced!

  • APRIL 2025 - MARCH 2026: Program Length
