Calling Young Photographers! Capture the Beauty of Anacostia

Anacostia has a story to tell — and a new photography class is putting cameras in the hands of young people to help capture it.

Capturing Our Neighborhood invites youth ages 11 to 18 to explore photography while documenting the people, places and moments that make their community special.

Under the guidance of instructor Saida Blair, students will learn skills including composition, lighting and perspectiveand discover how photography can be used to tell stories about the world around them.

The program gives young photographers a chance to get creative while seeing familiar streets, neighbors and places from a different perspective. Along the way, they'll develop photography skills and create their own visual record of Anacostia.

Classes are divided into age groups for youth 11–13 and 14–18 and are held Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Whether they already love taking pictures or are picking up photography for the first time, young people are invited to come out and capture Anacostia through their own lens.
