Transitions/Transformations

The Anacostia Playhouse is seeking new and non-produced 10-minute plays for its annual new works series. Selected playwrights will have the opportunity to work with a professional director and actors to prepare for the final staged reading or performance.

Definitions to think about:

Transition is a Movement, Passage, or Change from One Position to Another. The word “transition” is often used in human services to refer to the general process of someone moving, or being moved, from one set of services to another.

Transition is the act or the process of passing from one state, stage, place, or subject to another : change

Transformation is the act or process of changing completely : a complete change. transformation. noun. A transformation is a dramatic change in form or appearance. A transformation is an extreme, radical change.

The Guidelines:

The play should be short: 10-15 minutes.

The play should be a new non-produced work.

The play should have no more than 4 characters.

The play should focus on neighborhoods east of the Anacostia River.

The play should address the themes of transitions and transformations, whether physically, personally, and/or socially.

Please Note due to the high volume of submissions we receive, we are unable to respond individually to each work sample that’s submitted, or to offer feedback. You will hear from us by February 1, 2022, if your work has been accepted into the festival.
