DC Seeks Mural Artists for Color the Curb School Safety Program

The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (CAH) is looking for mural artists to help bring more color and creativity to streets near DC schools through the Color the Curb: School Safety Program.

The program, a partnership between CAH, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), and DC Public Schools (DCPS), uses ground murals painted in curb extensions outside or near schools to support pedestrian safety while creating vibrant public spaces.

Artists will be selected to create murals at intersections near four DC schools. Each selected artist will be paired with a school and work with students and faculty to gather ideas and develop a site-specific design.

CAH is seeking artists and mural professionals with previous experience in large-scale exterior mural painting, youth engagement, and community-based projects.

The finished murals are intended to reflect student input, strengthen connections to the surrounding community, and become a source of neighborhood pride.
