Celebrating Black History Month: Honoring Kristina Noell
In celebration of Black History Month, we are proud to recognize and honor the incredible leadership of Kristina Noell, Executive Director of the Anacostia Business Improvement District.
Kristina made history as the first African American female BID director in Washington, DC, and since joining the Anacostia BID — the first BID east of the river — in October 2018, she has transformed what it means to lead with purpose, vision, and community at the center.
From the very beginning, Kristina took the time to truly know Anacostia. She spent meaningful time with local businesses and residents, listening, learning, and understanding the district’s needs so that progress could be rooted in authenticity and trust.
Under her fearless leadership, the Anacostia BID has achieved remarkable milestones:
• Guiding the district through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic
• Securing the designation of Anacostia as an official Arts & Culture District
• Expanding the BID team to better serve the community
• Launching the Village Program, bringing vital resources directly to businesses
• Establishing Arts & Economic Impact Day, celebrated annually on May 14th
Kristina has shaped a BID unlike any other — an Arts & Economic BID that proudly embodies Anacostia’s identity as both a vibrant cultural center and a thriving economic hub. Her leadership continues to elevate the community, empower entrepreneurs, and honor the rich cultural legacy of this historic neighborhood.
We applaud you, Kristina.
Your team is proud to stand beside such a bold and visionary leader.
Happy Black History Month — and thank you for making history every day.
