Open House @ Anacostia Arts Center is a celebration of the creative ecosystem thriving in DC. This month, expect an afternoon full of music, activism, poetry, and a Black-owned business showcase. Vendors include Ejima Yarn, The Kitchen Physician, Black Squirrel Company, and DC Honey.

3:00 PM to 4:30 PM: Black August Celebration w/ Nubian Hueman
Black August is an annual commemoration and prison-based holiday to remember Black freedom fights and political prisoners and to highlight Black resistance against racial oppression. Nubian Hueman will be leading a special letter writing workshop where participants will write to Black women political prisoners.
4:00 to 7 PM: Release: An Open Mic Experience
Our friend, DJ Artis, will be in the house to host a special community open mic. Release A space for artists to share, develop and let their crafts. This open mic is for creatives of all ages, gender expressions, and skillsets. Come share your poetry, music, and stories with a community ready to receive you as you are.
The open mic is a free community-building experience for local artists to grow, develop and share their craft.
