DC Water, in partnership with the Water Environment Federation (WEF), launched the National Green Infrastructure Certification Program (NGICP) to train, qualify, and certify eligible participants for the green infrastructure construction, inspection, and maintenance workforce. The University of the District of Columbia (UDC) provides the NGICP exam training at no cost to District residents. This training is a prerequisite for the NGICP exam. Training programs will be offered, starting in March.

The workforce development training program is for District residents with a high school diploma or equivalent, and no college education. The program consists of 130 hours of training. The purpose of this training is to give unemployed or underemployed DC residents an opportunity to embark on a new career path in green infrastructure.

The professional training program is for those who are already operating as green infrastructure professionals, as well as those in aligned professions. The length of the training program is one week. The purpose of this training is to expand participants' green infrastructure knowledge and technical skills needed for the successful inspection, construction, and maintenance of GI projects.

DC Water and UDC will conduct two mandatory information sessions about the programs. Participants are required to attend one of the two mandatory sessions. Space is limited.
