OCT 20 | Finding A Way, Serbian Contemporary Art at the Anacostia Arts Center
Thu, October 20, 2022, 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
Anacostia Arts Center
1231 Good Hope Road, SE
The Anacostia Arts Center announced its collaboration with the Embassy of Serbia to present Finding A Way, a group exhibition that brings the contemporary works of nine Serbian artists to the new Arts, Culture, and Tech District in Anacostia and the Serbian Embassy.
In Anacostia, this group exhibition aims to present the Serbian contemporary art scene at the intersection of generations, styles, and techniques. The selected artists express their views of current topics that they’ve channeled into critically acclaimed works.
On Friday, October 21 at the Embassy of Serbia, professors from the University of Belgrade and local artists from Wards 7 and 8 will hold a panel to share the importance of cultural diplomacy. The speakers will explore how Serbian art and artists found their way into the soul of one of the most famous neighborhoods in Washington, DC. This discussion will be open to the public and moderated by Sarah Dittrich of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. The project continues with a second exhibition, which will be held in collaboration with the Anacostia Arts Center and is also open to the public. Attendees can view the showcase at the center from October 20 to November 5. Special thanks to curator Marija Milosevic, Elisabeth Escobar, and Irena Kuznik for this collaboration.
