Join us for a celebration of Latin heritage through arts and culture-- highlighting the interconnectedness of African and Latin Cultures in D.C.Washington, D.C.
ART is Positive Empowerment and the Anacostia Arts Center is proud to announce that WOVEN THREAD 6.0: Tradition Meets the Streets, a dynamic group exhibition curated by Luis Del Valle, will be featured as part of the Southeast Community Arts and Business Festival (SECAB) 2024.
This year’s program will not only celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month but also shine a light on the deep cultural ties and interconnectedness between African and Latin cultures, particularly within the vibrant D.C. community.
WOVEN THREAD 6.0 will bring together traditional paintings and contemporary graffiti art, reflecting the rich fusion of heritage, hip-hop culture, and urban expression. This exhibition, paired with live music curated by DJ ART.is, will be a powerful exploration of how African and Latin cultures have historically influenced and enriched each other, especially within Ward 8, where diverse cultural traditions converge.“This collaboration is a celebration of the cultural bridges that exist between African and Latin communities, especially here in Washington, D.C.,” said DJ Art.is, organizer of SECAB.
About the Curator:Luis Del Valle, a public artist with roots in D.C., is known for his work in building community through art. His approach to graffiti reimagines street art by blending it with historical references and repurposed street signs, creating a connection between traditional and modern cultural expressions.SECAB 2024 will take place on Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 12 PM to 6 PM at the Anacostia Arts Center, located at 1231 Marion Barry Avenue SE.
