MAY 1 - 17 | Anacostia Murals Festival Returns: Art, Culture, and Community

The Anacostia Murals Festival is back—and it’s bringing color, creativity, and community energy to neighborhoods across DC.

From May 1 through May 17, the 2nd annual festival will transform Anacostia, Deanwood, Minnesota Avenue, and surrounding areas into a vibrant, open-air art gallery. With free events happening daily, this is a celebration designed for everyone to enjoy.

Throughout the festival, visitors can experience live mural painting as artists bring large-scale works to life in real time. The lineup also includes artist talks, hands-on workshops, pop-up performances, and interactive experiences that invite the community to engage directly with the creative process.

The festival kicks off on May 1 with an opening celebration featuring music, food, and plenty of community vibes—setting the tone for more than two weeks of programming.

Event Spotlight:
On May 2, Art to Go-Go turns up the energy with a performance by Off the Grid Band at the Capitol Hill Boys Club—blending live music with the festival’s artistic spirit.

Whether you’re an art enthusiast, a local resident, or just looking for something new to experience in DC, the Anacostia Murals Festival offers a unique opportunity to explore creativity right here east of the river.

Come out, walk the streets, and watch the city transform—one mural at a time.
