July 13 | Peace & Positivity Block Party
The PEACE & POSITIVITY Block Party brings together neighbors, local organizations, and youth to end violence and welcome the summer.
ABOUT THIS EVENT
The PEACE & POSITIVITY Block Party brings together our community to welcome the summer and call for an end to violence by launching the new "Peace & Positivity" music video.
Local hip-hop artists Dougie D, 20, and Nfinity Zhy, 20, along with local poet Isaiah King, 20, are premiering a new single called “Peace & Positivity.” This summer peace anthem is being released by One Common Unity (OCU), a DC-based non-profit organization that aims to break the cycles of violence through the arts and peace education.
The event will feature guest performances by:
Grammy-nominated Maimouna Youseff (aka Mumu Fresh)
Underdog the DJ
Fly By Light
and more!
Dougie D, Nfinity Zhy, and Isaiah King provide a youth perspective on issues they face in the community with their powerful lyrics. The artists are all alumni of OCU’s Fly By Light program, which teaches social-emotional literacy, restorative justice, and non-violence practices through music and art. In “Peace & Positivity,” they express their aspirations for safety and well-being with a meaningful refrain from Dougie D, “All he ever wanted was some peace and positivity.”
Support for this event and the music video comes from the DC Department of Behavioral Health (DBH), the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH), the DC Rotary Club, and supporters like you.
