In So Black I’m Bright, Tella uses poignant lyrical snippets from self-aware hip hop as titles. This body of work is centered on the pan-African origins, remembrances and Black empowerment lyrics in Hip Hop. Black Body Bright Quest is a representation of the work each of us, easily “untouchables” in the modern global caste system, must persevere in to follow our soul’s quest, our journey or as defined in Yoruba cosmology, our Ori, one’s destiny. This piece evokes the truth of existences of generations of folk of African origin. From the series, I use poignant lyrical snippets from hip hop as titles of the work. This body of work is centered on the pan-African origins, remembrances and Black empowerment lyrics in Hip Hop.
