The Anacostia Coordinating Council (ACC) joins the Washington, DC region in celebrating the Year of the Anacostia (YOTA).  Next Tuesday, April 24th, 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum1901 Fort Place, SE, ACC will feature at its monthly meeting a presentation by Krista Schlyer, a conservation photographer and writer. She is a senior fellow in the International League of Conservation Photographers and her work has been published by BBC, The Nature ConservancyHigh Country News, The National Geographic Society, and Audubon.

Schlyer is the author of two previous books including Continental Divide, winner of the 2013 National Outdoor Book Award. She is also the 2014 recipient of the Sierra Club's Ansel Adams Award for Conservation Photography and the 2015 Vision Award from the North American Nature Photographers Association. She resides in the Washington, DC, metro area.  Anacostia River restoration advocates are invited to view Krista Schlyer's Anacostia River Watershed Photo Database.

Her new book River of Redemption will be released this fall and incorporates 7 years of photography and research about life along the Anacostia River.  The book offers an experience of the Anacostia that reveals the eons of natural history, centuries of destruction, and decades of restoration that have made the river what it is today - a font of grief and a wellspring of hope.  The book can be preordered at kristaschlyer.com/book-store.
