Black Girls CODE To Host ‘Inspiring Innovation’ Summer Camp in Washington, D.C. for 12- to 17-Year-Old Girls of Color
Washington, D.C. [June 8, 2023] – Black Girls CODE, a nonprofit that provides girls of color with access to engaging computer programming education that ignites their passion for technology, unlocks their potential, and leads to more equitable communities, is bringing a summer camp to Washington, D.C. this July 10-21.
Black and brown girls ages 12-17 from across D.C., plus surrounding Maryland and Virginia communities, are invited to join Black Girls CODE for Summer Camp 2023 – a safe place to not only be inspired and have fun with others who look like them, but also learn from instructors who celebrate their experience. The 10-day camp costs $100 and is being held at Digital Pioneers Academy (Lower Campus) at 909 Wahler Place SE. Space is limited and parents can register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/bgc-dc-in-person-summer-camp-tickets-650894170987.
Students will learn about amazing innovators and their awesome inventions that have changed the world, plus use p5.js (a JavaScript library for artists and beginners) to create an animated digital art piece representing an innovation that already exists or something they want to invent themselves.
Girls who have participated in multiple Black Girls CODE events have gone on to win scholarship money for college, compete in hackathons at the AfroTech Conference, and land jobs at top tech companies like Spotify.
