APRIL 7 | SOUND PATTERNS No. 8 Closing Reception at Honfleur Gallery
SHAOLIN JAZZ invites you to attend the closing reception of our SOUND PATTERNS Art Exhibition No. 8: An Exploration of martial arts within the Black Aesthetic, on view at The Honfleur Gallery.
There has long been a relationship between martial arts and Black people, which goes back decades and can been seen, in a range of martial arts films where the poor and disenfranchised fight against an oppressive force, and heard in music through iconic groups such as Wu-Tang Clan.
The original works in this exhibition explore that relationship through the lens of seven artists and their respective mediums:
Maurice James Jr.
Asad “Ultra” Walker
Kojo Boateng
Imani K. Brown
Christopher Everett
Terence Nicholson
Aniekan Udofia
We invite you to observe, learn, and enjoy the stories these artists works tell via their individual aesthetics ranging from tattoo art, graffiti, graphic design, paint, and film.
The closing reception will take place on Friday April 7th at the Honfleur Gallery in DC from 7-10pm.
