1st Annual TRIBEFESTDC Convenes Creatives and City Government Agencies in the Nation’s Capital
Washington, DC — March 1, 2018 — TRIBEFESTDC (May 3-6, 2018) is a multi-day artist lead convening where creatives, decision-making government agencies, residents and community leaders are invited to converge for positive social change. The convening is designed to bridge the trust gap between local government, community leaders, residents and creative place makers. Additionally, this is an opportunity for local agencies to explain their functions and manage expectations of their office. TRIBEFESTDC will consist of participatory discussions, performances, and engaging cultural activities for District residents, creatives, local government, and community leaders, to explain how to more effectively use the creative voice in community development. TRIBEFESTDC is a "call to action" convening, fueled by a collective of progressive, forward-thinking citizen artists.
Spanning across the arts-centered stretch of Historic Anacostia, TRIBEFESTDC features workshops that provide training and tools for creatives such as: Increased literacy for artists to understand the language of government policies, how to reach out to funders and funding agencies, how to build accountability into contracts and agreements with funders, the difference between advocacy and activism, cryptocurrency, the business of creative entrepreneurship, grant writing and more. Participating organizations, collectives and agencies include: The Department of Small and Local Business Development, Guerilla Arts Ink, The DC Office of Planning, The HBC Theater Company, and Grammy nominated vocalist, Carolyn Malachi.
