Open Artist Hours featuring Block Watch installation

  • SMITHSONIAN ANACOSTIA COMMUNITY MUSEUM 1901 Fort Place Southeast Washington, DC, 20020 United States (map)

What makes Anacostia YOUR home? For the fifth installation in CulturalDC’s Mobile Art Gallery, artist Amanda Burnham transforms the 40-foot renovated shipping container into “Block Watch,” a site-specific installation generated by images of the Anacostia community.

During Open Artist Hours, Burnham invites you to share your memories and directly influence the "Block Watch" exhibit. The stories you tell will be translated into Burnham's bold, three-dimensional paintings to create a vibrant tapestry of the Anacostia community. Once complete, the exhibition will be in CulturalDC’s Mobile Art Gallery at the Smithsonian’s Anacostia Community Museum from April 25-May 26.

If you can't make it to Open Artist Hours, please share your images via social media using the hashtag #MyAnacostia. Whether it's the Big Chair, the bald eagle live cam, or your backyard hangouts, we want to see it!
